Steve Andrews, P.E.
Steve is a registered Professional Engineer and a 1983 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Steve is from Houston, Texas, and has lived in Beaufort, South Carolina since 1987. His career began in College Station, Texas, where he worked as a project manager for Jerry Bishop & Associates, Inc. Upon moving to Beaufort, Steve went to work for Nivens Engineering, Inc. In 1990, he became co-owner of Lewis and Andrews, Inc., in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Bringing his business back to Beaufort in 1991, Steve founded Andrews Engineering Company, Inc.
Gary Burgess, P.E., P.L.S.
Gary manages the Andrews & Burgess, Inc. surveying department. He graduated from Clemson University in 1987 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor. Gary is originally from Greenville, South Carolina and has worked in surveying and engineering since graduating from Clemson. His surveying experience includes a variety of boundary, topographic mapping, and construction staking applications. His design career has focused on site, roadway, and landfill design for commercial, industrial, and municipal clients.
Ryan Lyle, E.I.T.
Ryan is a native of Hendersonville, South Carolina. Ryan worked summers with A&B as he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Clemson University. Upon graduating in December 2003, Ryan joined the staff at A&B full time where he is responsible for both engineering design and project management on a variety of civil engineering projects.
Andy Klosterman, E.I.T.
Andy graduated from Presbyterian College with a B.S. in Physics in 2002 and then obtained a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in May 2004. He began working with A&B in June of 2004. Andy specializes in the design and permitting of site development and utility design projects.
Chris Bates, E.I.T.
Chris attended the University of South Carolina and graduated in May 2005 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He joined A&B in August 2005 and has rapidly developed his engineering skills on both site and roadway design projects.
Eric Olson, E.I.T.
Eric graduated with a B.A. from the Citadel in 1991 and spent four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He returned to school to earn his B.S. in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University in California. While in California he worked for the Santa Clara Valley Water District survey section, the City of San Jose Public Works Department as an engineer technician, and Montgomery Watson Harza, Inc. performing design construction monitoring and resident engineering duties. He is a native of Middle, Georgia.
Dave Drought, E.I.T.
Dave has over 35 years of civil engineering design and project management experience in Maryland, Georgia, and South Carolina. His primary areas of expertise include site, highway, drainage, and civil design for industrial applications. He came to A&B in 2005 and works as a project manager.
Allen Tempest
Al has been with A&B since September 1995. Prior to moving to Beaufort, he worked for Birdsall Engineering, Inc. in South Belmar, New Jersey, for 16 years. Before joining the team at A&B, he worked one year at the Beaufort County Engineering Department in Beaufort, South Carolina. Al specializes in site inspections for various commercial and residential subdivisions and projects. He also administers all project contracts to obtain closeout permits and to ensure compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies.
Michael Moore
Mike joined A&B in 2005 after a 30-year career in the United States Air Force, during which time he was responsible for the infrastructure of national and international military installations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Masters in Business. Since coming to A&B, he has become an NPDES certified inspector. Mike conducts site inspections for environmental and regulatory compliance.
Jonathan Smith
Jonathan came to A&B in March 2004. Initially, he worked in the surveying department, starting out as an instrument operator and progressing to party chief. He is now in the construction inspection department where he is responsible for site inspections and completing utility as-built drawings. Jonathan is working towards a Civil Engineering Technology degree at the Technical College of the Lowcountry.
Phil Scallate
Phil started with A&B in February 2001 and heads the CADD effort for the engineering department. He is originally from Chicago, IL and has a diverse educational and work background. Phil graduated from Prosser Vocational High School in Chicago, where he majored in Electronics. In addition to the CADD coursework Phil has completed at the Technical College of the Lowcountry, he also holds a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He is a former business owner and holds a patent related to his past business.
Kurt D’Angelo
Kurt graduated from Alfred Tech in Alfred, NY with an Associates of Science degree in Mechanical design. He worked for Kodak and V.D.I. for 26 years in machine and architectural design. His CADD experience includes ANVIL-3D, UNIGRAPHICS-3D, and AutoCAD. He joined A&B in June 2005 and is developing his civil design skills on a variety of site and utility projects.
Kristin Merchant
Kristin joined Andrews & Burgess, Inc. in July 2005 and works in the surveying department as a CADD Technician. She is a native of Easley, SC and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Business and Human Resource Management from Park University.
George Smolarek
George’s career in surveying, civil and architectural design began in 1984 while he was still in high school and worked as a draftsman for a local land surveyor in his hometown of Detroit, MI. His design experience includes roadway and site design for municipal, commercial, and industrial clients. In addition to his design and drafting background, George has also worked as an IT/CADD manager where he was responsible for 125 employees with their CADD workstations and 7 Windows 2000 servers.
Nathan Linley
Nathan is originally from Macon, Georgia, and has lived in Beaufort since 1996. Nathan served in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years where he became a surveying cad technician in 1992. He is currently enrolled in the Civil Engineering Technology program at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Nathan has worked as a CADD technician for A&B since September 2004 and heads the surveying departments drafting effort.
Gregg Freeman
Gregg, who is a 1986 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science, began his career in surveying and civil engineering just after his graduation from USC. He joined the A&B surveying department in 2005 and coordinates the efforts of the field crews. Prior to coming on board at A&B, he worked for 19 years in the Surveying and Civil Engineering Departments for Bechtel at the Savannah River Site.
Jack Beach
Jack has worked in a wide variety of land surveying applications since 1983. He has worked for the South Carolina Department of Transportation, roadway construction contractors, and private consultants. He serves as a party chief in the A&B surveying department and is responsible for as-built topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction staking services.
Gerald Popp
Gerald is from Beaufort and has worked in the surveying field since 1994. Gerald has extensive experience in boundary and topographic surveying, as well as construction staking. Gerald works as a crew chief for A&B.
Barry Washington
Barry is a native of Beaufort and graduated from Savannah State University in 1998 with a B.S. in Environmental Science. His studies included classes in groundwater contamination and wetlands. Barry has worked in the surveying field since 2000 and is employed as a crew chief at A&B.
Mike Herbert
Mike is a 2001 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Geography. His coursework focused on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Remote Sensing. He has been with A&B since August 2003 and works in the Surveying Department as a crew chief.
