Andrews & Burgess, Inc., located in Beaufort, South Carolina, specializes in all aspects of civil-site development and surveying. Steve Andrews, PE, a graduate of Texas A&M University, established Andrews Engineering Company, Inc. in 1991 as a one-man engineering firm. Since that time, we have steadily grown to an engineering and surveying organization of over 30 people.

Steve, who heads the engineering efforts for A&B, began his civil engineering career in 1984 and has a broad spectrum of experience in design and development projects. Since the company’s inception in 1991, he has led the engineering staff through the successful completion of hundreds of land development, road, drainage, and utility projects. The engineering department is constantly upgrading both computer hardware and software programs to stay at the forefront of the current technology. Our CAD technicians typically utilize AutoDesk Civil Series to produce design drawings, but we also have staff trained in MicroStation and In-Roads CAD packages as well. Our civil engineering design software includes Pond-2, WaterCAD, and StormCAD by Haestad Methods in addition to Sedcad 4 by Civil Software Design.

In the fall of 2002, Gary Burgess, PE, PLS joined A&B to add surveying to our slate of services. Gary is a 1987 graduate of Clemson University with experience in both land surveying and civil engineering design. As we strive to stay up-to-date in our engineering design capabilities, A&B is also committed to remaining on the cutting-edge of surveying technology. We utilize the most modern total stations manufactured by Topcon along with data collectors from Tripod Data Systems to collect field data. In addition to traditional surveying methods with total stations, we also utilize both static and real-time global positioning systems to establish state plane coordinates and relate our surveying projects to mean sea level. Our crews are also trained in operating robotic total stations for rapid data collection when the terrain allows for their use. After the field effort is complete, the final surveys and maps are produced using AutoDesk Civil Series.
